Richard Godden

Chairman

Richard Godden is a Lawyer and a Consultant of Linklaters. He was a Partner of Linklaters for 36 years during which time he advised on a wide range of transactions and issues in various parts of the world. 

Richard’s experience includes his time as Secretary of the UK Takeover Panel and later as a member of its rule making committee. He also served as Global Head of Client Sectors, responsible for Linklaters’ industry sector groups, and was a member of its Global Executive Committee.

He has been the chair of the CEME board since 2023.

 

Anne Devlin

Board Member

Anne Devlin worked for 22 years at BP Oil International, 10 of which as Crude Book Leader in Oil Trading in London. She has significant experience of energy markets including trading strategies and international contract negotiations. She retired from trading in December 2018. She joined the board of Terra Solar, a solar development business operating in Ireland, as a non-executive director in February 2019 and is particularly involved in strategic development.

She is the treasurer and a Trustee of Christian Responsibility in Public Affairs (CPRA).

Anne holds a Master’s in Management from ESCP Europe.

 

Carl Ferenbach

Board Member

Carl Ferenbach is Chairman & co-founder with his wife Judy of High Meadows Foundation and High Meadows Fund. He was the longtime Chairman of the Board of Environmental Defense Fund, an international environmental advocacy NGO. He served two terms as a trustee of Princeton University. Carl and Judy have been involved in supporting environmental research at Princeton since the 1990s. In 2020, the interdisciplinary institute there was renamed the High Meadows Environmental Institute in recognition of a gift from Carl and Judy. 

Carl was a co-founder of Berkshire Partners LLC, a private equity investment firm based in Boston, MA and was previously  Managing Director. Berkshire has managed nine private equity investment funds and the Stockbridge Fund, with approximately $16.0 billion of capital.

Before Berkshire, he was a managing director of Merrill Lynch, responsible for that firm’s activities in mergers and acquisitions and leveraged buyouts. Carl has been a director of several of Berkshire’s railway, telecommunications and industrial companies, including roles as Chairman on the Boards of English, Welsh and Scottish Railway, U.S. Can Corporation and Crown Castle International.

Carl holds an A.B from Princeton University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.

He and Judy own High Meadows Associates, Inc., which operates farms in southern Vermont producing maple sugar products.

 

Joanna Moriarty

Board Member

Joanna Moriarty is a Partner at Green Park Executive Search and leads the Faith practice, recruiting senior executives and trustees. She worked for many years in senior leadership at SPCK Publishing. She was responsible for the Publishing division, with strong lists in theology, biblical studies and spirituality across the full range of the Christian tradition. 

 

Andrew Packman

Board Member

Andrew spent his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers where he was a partner for more than 25 years. He led a variety of the firm’s businesses both in the UK and globally, with a focus on the pharmaceutical industry. He also led the firm’s work on explaining corporate taxation to civil society and the public. He is now studying for a Master’s in History at Oxford which he combines with being a trustee at the London Handel Society.

 

Philip Wood

Board Member

Philip Wood brings more than 30 years’ experience in business and finance. A Chartered Accountant, he was a partner with Price Waterhouse before joining Reuters where he stayed for 14 years in a number of senior management roles. Philip was on the board of a substantial West Coast USA public software company which was sold in 2014. He serves as a director of CfBT Education Trust and is a school governor in Sevenoaks. Philip is also a trustee of Christian Responsibility in Public Affairs (CPRA).

Robert Hughes-Penney

Advisor

Robert Hughes-Penney is an Investment Director at Rathbone Investment Management where he manages segregated global multi-asset investment portfolios for a range of clients. Since 2018, he has been an Alderman in the City of London for the Ward of Cheap. Since September 2025, he has served as one of the two elected Sheriffs of the City of London. In these roles, he supports the Lord Mayor in promoting UK financial and professional services in the UK and globally.

 

James Leggett

Advisor

After a brief career as a professional golfer on the European Tour, James worked as a Public Relations executive with Extel Advertising and Public Relations then moved to industry working in the marketing division of Calor Gas. He was ordained into the Church of England in 1993 and led a church on the Isle of Wight for 25 years. He serves on several trust boards and is passionate to see Christian ethics permeate through business as the means of business and communities flourishing.
